Willard W. Mapes Jr., 58, of the 1700 block of Skyline Drive, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Mr. Mapes was born in Butler, Ohio. He had retired from Norfolk General Hospital as an evening shift security supervisor since 1975. He was also a retired petty officer 1st Class from the U.S. Navy in 1975 after 20 years. He was a member of Burrows Memorial Baptist Church and the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 60.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes I. Mapes; a daughter, Ellen Warrick of Norfolk; a son, Donald Nagy of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Arlene Shilling of Massillon, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Tammy and Jon Warrick and Terry Drumheller, all of Norfolk and Sherry and Barbara Nagy of Columbia, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Don Harris. The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.
