Melvin John Shepherd, 75, passed away Nov. 1, 1994, in a local hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of the Tidewater area. Mr. Shepherd was employed in the hardware business for 40 years. He was a longtime member of the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club.
Mr. Shepherd is survived by Louise Shepherd, his wonderful, loving wife of 51 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Anita Shepherd of Chesapeake and Steve and Donna Shepherd of Virginia Beach. He also is survived by five loving grandchildren, Melinda, Rhonda, Angie, Whitney and Kyle. There are three remaining sisters, Mrs. Vivian McCloughlin of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Marjorie Carroll and Mrs. Jackie Neale, both of Virginia Beach.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. in Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall, Kempsville Chapel, with the Rev. Tommy Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Upon Mr. Shepherd's request cremation will follow the funeral services. Memorials are requested to be made to the Davis Corner Fire and Rescue Squad or the American Heart Association.
