Metro Machine wins Navy ship-repair contract: Metro Machine Corp. won an $8.8 million contract on Wednesday for work on the destroyer Hayler from the Navy. The contract is for some overhaul of the ship including drydocking. It is scheduled to be completed by May 1995. The fixed-price contract is a departure for Metro Machine, which typically did Navy work on a ``cost-plus'' basis, or being paid its expenses plus a guaranteed margin. Metro Machine employs more than 600 people at its plant in the Berkley section of Norfolk, where the work will be performed. by CNB
