Dr. David Phillip Meggs Sr., 69, of the 1400 block of Brothers Drive, died Thursday evening in Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill.
He was a native of Camden County and had retired after 40 years as a chiropractor. He was a member of the N.C. Chiropractic Association, a former Kiwanian, a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and a very active member of the Democratic Party. He was a veteran, having served in the merchant marine. He was the son of the late John Franklin and Minta Sawyer Meggs and the husband of Betty Sugg Meggs.
Besides his wife, Dr. Meggs is survived by a daughter, Catherine Meggs of Elizabeth City and a son, David P. Meggs Jr. of Charlottesville, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., with the Rev. Mack McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence.
The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Riverside United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund.
