FREDDIE L. BATTLE

Freddie Lee Battle of the 1200 block of Boissevain Ave., expired Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1994, in Delaware.

Mr. Battle was born in Norfolk, where he completed the public schools. Freddie studied industrial technology at Virginia State University and participated in the Greek fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha, Beta Gamma Chapter. He worked as an electrical design engineer. He was the husband of Sherry D. Battle and a member of New Light Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army.

Freddie and wife, Sherry, founded the New York Modeling Agency in Norfolk in 1989 and it has flourished until the present time. Freddie is a fashion photographer who accomplished tasks that may seem impossible to achieve in Hampton Roads. His clients range from mega stars such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Mohammad Ali, Bill Cosby, Jesse Jackson, Television Star Search, international magazines, to government contracts.

Battle placed faces on covers for Vogue and other national magazines. Although his favorite were working with child models, including his son, Alexander, and clients who loved him, everywhere he went. He traveled frequently as he enjoyed driving and traveling. His demise resulted from his stint as a professional long distance driver for Gwaltney of Smithfield.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry; a son, Alexander; his mother, Bettie; his father, Moses; and a brother, Roderick Battle, all of Norfolk, and many friends who are remembering his smiling face.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in New Light Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. R.B. Lewis. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will assemble at 1225 Boissevain Ave., Norfolk. A wake service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Graves Funeral Home.
