NEW COLLEGE PRESIDENT

Shirley Robinson Pippins, a New York college administrator, was named president of Thomas Nelson Community College on Thursday.

Pippins, vice president and dean of Westchester Community College in Valhalla, N.Y., will be paid $88,261 a year at Thomas Nelson. She will start work Feb. 1.

Pippins succeeds Robert G. Templin Jr., who left in September to become president of the Center for Innovative Technology in Herndon.

Pippins has been vice president at Westchester since 1991. Before that, she was associate dean of community services at the college, director of the office of employment and training for Westchester County and a consultant for IBM Corp.

``Her broad business and industrial experience, and the range of her educational experience in general, make her an ideal candidate to lead Thomas Nelson Community College,'' said Arnold R. Oliver, chancellor of the state community college system.

Thomas Nelson has about 11,000 students. by CNB
