REGENT U. APPOINTS EXECUTIVE

Regent University has named its business dean, John E. Mulford, to be the school's first executive vice president of finance and operations.

Mulford will ``bring tremendous wisdom and astute leadership to the university in fiscal and operational concerns,'' President Terry Lindvall said.

``John has significantly shaped and nurtured one of the best MBA programs on the East Coast and will be responsible for ensuring the financial stability and smooth, efficient operation of the university.''

Mulford joined Regent as a founding faculty member of the business school in 1982. He was appointed dean in 1990.

He is a former computer systems officer in the Air Force, an economist for the Rand Corp. and vice president of First Interstate Bank of California.

``He is not one to wave his own flag,'' said Robert E. Fentress, a former vice mayor of Virginia Beach. ``John will bring many strengths to his new position. He performs in a low-key way that is agreeable to everyone he deals with, and his background in administration and finance are strengths that have been built into him over the years.'' by CNB
