Garvester H. Thompson, Sr., of the 500 block of Briar Hill Road died Nov. 5, 1994.
Mr. Thompson was born in Wilson, N.C. He was a security guard at St. Mary's Infant Home and employed by Pinkerton Security Services. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church and the Deacon Board. He retired from the Navy in 1972 after 22 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Thompson; two daughters, Veronica Jean Bell and VeRita Joan Thompson; two sons, Garvester H. Thompson, Jr., and Victor J. Thompson; four sisters, Beulah Nichols, Elmon Kyle and Annie R. Johnson, all of New York and Vivian McMillian of Pine Bluff, N.C.; three brothers, Vanzie Thompson and Earl Thompson, both of New York and Dr. Alton Thompson of Eden, N.C.; and a grandchild, Rachael V. Bell.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnnie White. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family will assemble at the residence. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. A wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
