The Tidewater Sharks were held to 69 yards rushing against the Lynchburg Jaguars and were knocked out of the Mason Dixon playoffs, 20-6, last night at the Center of Effective Learning Stadium. Sharks running back James Rogers was held to 33 yards on 12 carries after his 167 yard performance last week against the Fredericksburg Generals.
The Sharks could only muster eight first downs and got half of those on their fourth quarter scoring drive.
``We didn't move the ball,'' said Sharks coach Red Stickney. ``We couldn't run it, throw it, or catch it. It was one of those nights that everything we did was wrong.''
Sharks quarterback John Ealey had a miserable performance, going 9-of-28 with three interceptions and just 81 yards passing.
The Jaguar offense was in a similar funk but capitalized on the big plays. With a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, wide receiver Mike Fitzgerald caught a 71-yard touchdown pass from running back Fred Stovall on a halfback pass.
Stovall later sprinted for a 22-yard touchdown run to give the Jaguars a 20-point cushion.
``We didn't play like we wanted,'' said Sharks running back Danny Church. ``Sometimes other teams want it more than you and it showed on the scoreboard.''
The wildcard Jaguars will play the winner of the Charlotte Blast and Peninsula Poseidons game for the Southern Conference Championship. by CNB
