There is one reason for the crab shortage; it was obvious from my everyday travels during the summer.
I particularly noticed the female crabs caught in and around the Lynnhaven area. Most of them had eggs and were culled.
When the fish are not biting on the piers, the people catch crabs. Folks don't seem to realize the trillions of eggs that are being carried home and destroyed.
A solution would be to ban the removal of female crabs. This would put the commercial crabbers back in business, some blue crabs in my pot, crab cakes in my freezer and food on the crabber's table.
