I recently had the opportunity to spend some time in Charlotte and the Raleigh-Durham areas of North Carolina. The growth in those areas reminded me of Virginia Beach in the mid-1980s.
North Carolina has succeeded in promoting strong growth while at the same time limiting a competitor (Virginia Beach) and its access to water by citing environmental concerns. In the growth race, North Carolina has already won.
