Birdie Zoby Ackaway, 88, of the 300 block of E. Evans St., died Nov. 6, 1994, in a Virginia Beach nursing facility.
Mrs. Ackaway was a native of Norfolk and a lifelong resident. She was the widow of George M. Ackaway, and the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Annie Kayatt Zoby. She was a Roman Catholic and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Christ Child Society, Santos Club and Sons and Daughters of Lebanon.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne A. Copeland of Norfolk; two sons, George M. Ackaway Jr. and Joseph M. Ackaway, both of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church by the Rev. Lou Rouff. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, this evening at 7:30 p.m. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
