Ernest Ebert, 79, of the 500 block of Longfellow Ave., a retired U.S. Navy chief engineman, died Nov. 5, 1994, in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Ebert was born in Tacoma, Wash., and was a Lutheran. He was the widower of Margaret Lee Shawn Ebert and retired from the Navy 42 years ago. He had worked in the shipbuilding industry following his retirmeent from the Navy. During his 22 years of Naval service, Mr. Ebert served in the Battle of Makassar Strait, the Battle of Badung Strait, the Battle of Java Sea, the Battle of Bali Strait, the Asiatic Campaign, the China Service, the Korean Campaign, the Philippine Campaign, the North African Campaign and received the Presidential Unit Citation.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Ebert Owens of Virginia Beach; a brother, Al Ebert of Tacoma, Wash.; a grandson, William Allen Curling of Virginia Beach; a granddaughter, Susan Adell Rylko of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and a great-grandson, Steven Michael Rylko of Coon Rapids, Minn.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Rosewood Memorial Park by Chaplain Ernest Poe. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is handling arrangements. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
