LUCILLE H. GUM

Lucille Hendrick Gum of Norfolk, died Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, in a Norfolk health care center.

She was born in North Carolina, but spent most of her early years in Lawrenceville, Va., and the remainder of her life in Richmond, Louisville, Ky., and Norfolk.

Mrs. Gum was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women's Society. She also was a member of the Women of Wesleyan of the Virginia Wesleyan College, and the Alpha Kappa Chapter of PEO Sisterhood.

She was the widow of Bishop Walter Clarke Gum, former Bishop of the Kentucky and Virginia Annual United Methodist Conferences.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Russell Mason of Norfolk; three sisters, Theodora H. Jeter of Norfolk, Virginia H. Kabrick of Wilson, N.C., and Margaret H. Elmore of Petersburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Margaret Anne Holder of Point Clear, Ala., John M. Mason of St. Simons Island, Ga., Walter Clarke Mason of Houston, Texas, and William C. Mason of Newport News.

A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, Nov. 10, 1994, at 3 p.m. in Park Place United Methodist Church by Dr. Charles H. Smith, the Rev. Dabney Walters and Dr. Lewis H. Morgan. The burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walter C. Gum Scholarship Fund of Virginia Wesleyan College or to a charity of the donor's choice. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
