JAMES R. PEAKE JR.

James Rutledge Peake Jr., 84, died Nov. 6, 1994, in a Norfolk hospital.

Mr. Peake was born in Norfolk and was a graduate of Duke University, class of 1932. He was an agent with the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States for more than 60 years. He was a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church and was a former chairman of its Administrative Board. Mr. Peake was a past president of the Norfolk Rotary Club; past president of the Pyramid Club; and member of Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, where he was an avid tennis player. He was involved in the United Way for over 40 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Sara W. Peake; a daughter, Pris M. Peake of Alexandria, Va.; and three grandchildren, Emily Sheahan, Matthew and Jeffrey Peake. He was preceded in death by his son, James R. Peake III.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Larchmont United Methodist Church by Dr. Lewis H. Morgan. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Contributions may be made to the Food Locker Trust of Larchmont United Methodist Church.
