A Chesterfield County jury on Monday found Bradford A. Hinson, 17, guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting of a car salesman.
Hinson testified that he watched a 19-year-old friend, Tony Leslie Fry, shoot Leland A. Jacobs, 42, and helped hide the body because he was afraid Fry would shoot him.
According to testimony, the two told Jacobs that Fry's grandmother was interested in buying a car and drove with Jacobs to a wooded area of the county on Feb. 21. After shooting Jacobs 11 times, Hinson and Fry tied his body to the rear bumper of the car with his necktie and dragged him into the woods where they buried him under brush and roofing shingles.
As Hinson attempted to drive the vehicle away, he and Fry were met by Chesterfield police Officer D.L. Suda, who was looking for Fry for several unrelated crimes. Suda testified Monday that Hinson told him that Fry had just killed a man and led the officer to Jacobs' body.
The jury also convicted Hinson of robbery and two counts of use of a firearm in a felony. He faces a possible two life sentences plus eight years in prison when sentenced Feb. 1.
Fry pleaded guilty to capital murder, robbery and two firearms charges on Oct. 3. He will be sentenced to life in prison or death in January. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
