In Bobby Mathieson's life, there are the good guys and the bad guys. He's on the good side.

In nearly 20 years on the police force, Mathieson has worked on the streets, undercover with the vice squad and has seen the ins and outs of crime fighting in Virginia Beach.

President of the Police Benevolent Association for the past five years, he also likes to fish and scuba dive and is a proud soccer dad.

What is your idea of a perfect day off? No phone or pager.

Last smart thing you did: Let the kids spend the night with grandma so my wife and I could spend an evening alone.

Last dumb thing you did: Fell asleep first - the night the kids stayed at grandma's.

Favorite meal: Italian or seafood.

Favorite movies: ``Rising Sun'' and ``Goodfellas.''

Favorite song: Most anything by Phil Collins and Bruce Springsteen.

Last book read: ``Berenstain Bears Go To School.''

Hobbies: Camping, scuba diving and off-shore sport fishing - when I get the chance.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Slow down a bit.

If you could change one thing about your spouse, what would it be? I plead the ``Fifth.''

Secret vice: For the many years that I worked on the vice squad, I learned of everyone else's vices. . . . Now those are some secrets.

Favorite sport: Football and watching my boys' soccer games.

Pets: Our beloved German shepherd, Cayne. Put to rest on Aug. 4, 1994.

Of what achievements are you most proud? My family and a successful law enforcement career.
