Grady H. James Sr., 76, of Route 3, Box 841, husband of the late Doris Elizabeth James, died Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, in Martinsville Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Greenwood, S.C., on Oct. 7, 1918, and was the son of the late Joe Cephus James and the late Blanch Hand James. He was a retired 13-year employee of Martin Processing. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of Villa Heights Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and was a member of the choir.
He graduated from Clemson University with a degree in textile engineering, 1940. An ordained minister, he graduated from Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1964. He served churches in Columbia, N.C., and Danville, Va.
He was currently working for the Wal-Mart store of Martinsville, Va.
His survivors include his daughters, Mrs. Earl (Sharon) Owings and Mary Alice James Moore, both of Greenwood, S.C., and Mrs. Gary (Florette) Owen of Virginia Beach; sons, Ricky Rhodes of Cleveland, Ohio and Grady Harrison James Jr. of Marianna, Fla.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in Villa Heights Baptist Church, the Rev. James Alsop and Rev. Bobby Owings presiding. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va. Arrangements are by Collins Funeral Services of Bassett, Va.
