A medical examiner on Tuesday said the teenage boy who was killed in an explosion and fire at a house on Elon Drive on Monday died as a result of massive burns.
Dr. N. Turner Gray said the victim was burned over 98 percent of his body.
Neighbors identified the victim as Shaine Jackson, 15, who lived at 2609 Elon Drive, the site of the explosion. Police said dental records were being reviewed late Tuesday to confirm that identification.
Fire investigators have not determined what caused the first of two explosions that destroyed Jackson's house and heavily damaged the house next door shortly after 4 p.m. Monday. The second explosion was apparently set off by the first.
Jackson died moments after rescue workers began taking him to a waiting air ambulance.
Neighbors said two explosions rocked the home; Jackson ran out flames. Police said he was burned beyond recognition.
