An 18-wheel truck that jackknifed on North Carolina 12 Monday morning tied up traffic about four hours and caused a minor chemical spill.
No one was hurt.
Dare County Director of Emergency Services Sandy Sanderson said the single-vehicle accident occurred about 9 a.m. in this Hatteras Island community. Sanderson said the driver lost control and the truck ran off the road and jackknifed.
The truck was carrying chemicals. Containers carrying urethane paint ruptured and leaked about 10 gallons.
A fire unit, as well as a hazardous materials team, responded. Sanderson said there was no immediate danger to motorists or residents.
