HALLOWEEN IS past, and it's on to Thanksgiving.
And that brings the 40th year of the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line, a hot line for people having problems with holiday poultry.
Any problem will do. Take these examples from last year:
``How do you thaw a fresh turkey?'' asked a caller from Virginia.
One woman asked how long it would take to roast her turkey. When the Talk-Line home economist asked how much the turkey weighed, the woman responded, ``I don't know - it's still running around outside.''
And another a woman from Kentucky said that while she was preparing the turkey, her Chihuahua jumped on the counter and landed in the bird's body cavity.
She tried pulling the dog, shaking the bird. But the dog was stuck. The Talk-Line home economist calmed the distraught caller and suggested cutting the body cavity.
Got a question? Call the Talk-Line at (800) 323-4848. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Nov. 23, except on Nov. 19 and 20, when it will close at 6 p.m.; from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day; and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Nov. 25 and Dec. 23. ILLUSTRATION: Staff color illustration by JOHN EARLE
