PEARL Y. BAZEMORE

Mrs. Pearl Yvonne Bazemore of the 5900 block of Youlous Ave., departed this life on Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, in her home, surrounded by family and friends. She was 73 years of age.

Mrs. Bazemore retired from the Norfolk city public schools in 1983, having been employed as both teacher and guidance counselor for a total of 32 years.

On July 3, 1994, Pearl joined Calvary Revival Church. Prior to this time she had been a member of First Calvary Baptist Church for 44 years, where she served in the areas of Christian education and evangelism and outreach.

Other affiliations include membership in the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, an educators' sorority, and the Brambleton Seniors' Club. She was a former member of the Senior Missionary Circle of First Calvary Baptist Church and the Lott Carey Convention, where she held various offices. Of all her affiliations, perhaps the most cherished was her involvement in Community Alternatives Inc. Pearl's efforts in this organization resulted in the establishment of group residential homes where mentally retarded adult citizens can live and enjoy a quality of life, dignity and worth.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Bazemore; a daughter, Trenace Lewis; a son, Alonzo Bazemore; a brother, John Jasper Bazemore of Bertie County; two sons-in-law, Morris Exum and Thomas Lewis; one daughter-in-law, Linda Exum; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday in the sanctuary of Calvary Revival Church, 1148 E. Little Creek Road in Norfolk. Pastor Courtney McBath will officiate. The family is requesting that no flowers be sent, but that all donations be directed to Community Alternatives Inc., 3133 Magic Hollow Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23456. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family is now receiving guests at the home. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
