REGRET, AND DELIGHT, AT RESIGNATION

I am extremely sorry about the resignation of editorial page editor John Barnes because of managerial differences.

My guess is that the overly liberal Virginian-Pilot/Ledger-Star didn't like his conservatism.

It was a breath of fresh air to a lot of us to hear another view occasionally.

I was absolutely delighted to read that editorial page editor John A. Barnes is leaving The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star.

As a longtime subscriber to your paper (for more than 50 years), I feel we need different points of view. We need to hear form a wide range of columnists to keep us well-informed.

Now that I know Barnes was an assistant to columnists Rowland Evans and Robert Novak, I am not surprised. They never reflect my views. They are very narrow and biased.

I hope the next editorial editor gives us a different vision.
