AMORETTE J. MITCHELL

Amorette Jenkins Mitchell, 105, of the 400 block of Broad St., died Nov. 10, 1994, in Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Mitchell, ``Miss Amorette'' as she was affectionately known, was born on July 26, 1889, in Menola, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Joseph Henry and Olivia Benthall Jenkins. In 1910 she graduated with honors from Meredith College.

As a member of Aulander Baptist Church, she served as choir director, Sunday School teacher, WMU president and Circle leader. She was a charter member of the Aulander Woman's Club, where she served as chairman of the music and arts departments. Always an avid reader, she was considered an outstanding Bible scholar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Cleveland Mitchell Sr., and an only son, Grover Cleveland Mitchell Jr. of Dunn, N.C.

Surviving are a daughter, Catherine Mitchell Andrews of Lexington, N.C.; four grandsons, Lee Earl Andrews Jr. of Lexington, Mitchell Andrews of Charlotte, Marty Mitchell and Henry Mitchell, both of Raleigh; two great-grandons, Joe Andrews of Winston-Salem and Taylor Andrews of Lexington.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Robbie Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Aulander Cemetery. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
