In Virginia we witnessed history from ``afar'' on Tuesday. We should have been a participant; instead we could only watch. The rest of the country sent a message to Bill Clinton, the Washington, D.C., establishment and the media. In Virginia we re-elected a Clinton clone with, at best, a mediocre record.
I do not blame the liberals. I do not blame the independents. I do not even blame the media. I blame the Republicans.
Jim Miller would have beaten Chuck Robb and beaten him badly. It is ironic that the ultraconservative part of the Republican Party is responsible for a Chuck Robb win.
This same group is now blaming Sen. Warner for the loss, and already promising that he will not be nominated in '96. I say: Go ahead and do that, folks. Then there will be no Republicans representing Virginia in the Senate.
