The Virginia Court of Appeals has agreed to hear the appeal of Camellia Fries, convicted of murdering her mother at the family's Rockingham County home.
In an order Thursday, the court asked for briefs from defense attorney Walter F. Green IV and the office of Attorney General James S. Gilmore III. No schedule was established for briefs or oral arguments. A three-judge panel will hear the case.
G. Russell Stone Jr., a former Rockingham County prosecutor and now an assistant attorney general, will argue the case for the state.
Camellia, who will turn 15 next week, and Shawn Roadcap, 15, were convicted April 15 of first-degree murder.
Stephanie Fries, 13, Camellia's sister, was convicted April 27 as an accessory to second-degree murder.
All three are being held in state juvenile correctional facilities.
The girls' mother, Marilyn Stearn Fries, was stabbed to death in her bed on the morning of Sept. 4, 1993.
