HUNT FOR DRIVE-BY SHOOTING SUSPECTS ENDS

Police have arrested two men who had been sought for three months in a drive-by shooting.

The hunt for Nathaniel Dunlap, 23, and Damien Lamont Pruden, 19, ended at a Henrico County motel Thursday when the pair surrendered peacefully about 11:30 a.m., Newport News police spokesman Bill Roth said.

Dunlap and Pruden were wanted in connection with an August drive-by shooting.

Investigators believe the shooting, in which a Newport News resident was wounded, spilled over from a drive-by shooting that wounded a 5-year-old boy.

Soon after those shootings, the police chief declared Dunlap and Pruden the city's most dangerous fugitives.

Detectives said Dunlap and Pruden dodged authorities by moving back and forth between Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Richmond.

Roth said the break came at about 4 a.m. Thursday when a Henrico County police officer spotted a suspicious car in a motel parking lot.

``We had information that Pruden and Dunlap were up there,'' said police Lt. Carl Burt.

Police went to the motel and ``looked at the names and addresses on the register and although Dunlap and Pruden were not on there, they found a Newport News address,'' Roth said.
