COUNCIL TO INTRODUCE AN INFORMAL SESSION VIDEO EQUIPMENT WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE MAYOR'S CONFERENCE ROOM TO BROADCAST THE PROCEEDINGS.

An additional informal City Council session will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month, beginning this week.

It will be broadcast live on cable television Channel 47.

The added session will take place in the council chambers until video equipment can be purchased and installed in the new meeting place, the mayor's conference room, said the city's director of video services, Gwen Coward.

``It will probably be at least until the new year, or later'' until the conference room has broadcast capability, said Coward, adding that the city is in the process of taking bids for equipment and installation.

Concern had been expressed about whether the new informal session would be broadcast or held away from the scrutiny of the camera, a departure from current practice.

Not so, said Mayor Meyera E. Oberndorf. Council members had expressed the need for an additional session to discuss municipal business.

``It's a workshop,'' Oberndorf said. ``We can roll our sleeves up and talk.''

The workshops will not operate from an agenda nor entertain questions from the public, although it is open to anyone who wants to attend.

The council holds its formal meetings at 2 p.m. the first and second Tuesdays of each month and at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday. MEMO: COUNCIL ON TV
