Recently, an editorial (Currents, Oct. 9, 1994) brought to light the poor condition of the YMCA building in Downtown.
Since the Navy takes its commitment to the Tidewater community very seriously, we deeply regret that the building fell into such a state of disrepair.
In any case, the building and the site have received a substantial face-lift and the repair and refurbishment efforts are continuing.
Once again, we regret the oversight that permitted the building to become an eyesore. The Navy is attempting to sell the YMCA building, but the property will receive the necessary attention in the future as long as it is the Navy's responsibility.
