William Hunt Staples, Sr., 77, of the 300 block of Grayson Street, died November 11, 1994, in Portsmouth.
Mr. Staples, a native of Roanoke, Va., was a Retired Lt. Cmdr, U.S.N.R. and Veteran of World War II. He also was retired from the Virginia ABC Board. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection.
Mr. Staples was the son of the late Justice Abram P. Staples and Jean Watts Staples.
Survivors include his wife, Aelred Glynn Staples; two daughters, Anne Staples Brooks of Phoenix, Md., Sarah Staples McCaskill of Norfolk; two sons, Dennis L. Staples of Virginia Beach, W. Hunt Staples, Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Jean Showalter of Lynchburg, Va.; three granddaughters, Elaine Fridge and Stephanie Fridge both of Vienna, Va., and Lauren Staples of Huaraz, Peru; a grandson Brett Staples of Portsmouth.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Monday in The Church of the Resurrection by the Rev. James Carr. Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery with Foster Funeral Home in charge. Memorial donations may be made to: Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, Va. 23703.
