The survivors of a Littleton man who died of cancer caused by inhaling asbestos fibers have been awarded a $2.9 million judgment against Owens-Corning Fiberglass Corp.
Cleo Elmore filed the lawsuit before he died in October 1991, Raleigh lawyer John Alan Jones said. A U.S. District Court jury in Elizabeth City entered the verdict last week.
Wilmington lawyer Don Britt, who represented Owens-Corning, said he already has filed motions to reduce the damage award.
Jones said Elmore was exposed to asbestos during a long Navy career. Elmore developed cancer and died in less than a year.
