Norfolk State's James Roe needed six catches against Kentucky State to break the CIAA record for receptions in a season Saturday afternoon. He got 12.
Roe needed 101 yards to break the single-season yardage record. He got 167.
Roe needed one touchdown catch to break that single-season record. He got three.
As usual, Roe did what was needed, and then some.
``Just throw the ball up and he'll catch it,'' offensive tackle Chris Patterson said.
The junior from Richmond finished the year with an impressive 77 catches for 1,454 yards and 17 touchdowns.
MORE GAUDY STATS: With 321 yards passing and five touchdowns Saturday, quarterback Aaron Sparrow went over a couple of significant milestones: 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Sparrow, who has shattered every NSU passing record this year, finished the year with with 216 completions on 361 attempts, a 59.8 percentage, for 3,212 yards and 31 touchdowns.
A WISH FULFILLED: Senior Brian Rountree, playing in his final college game, had just one wish Saturday: to score a touchdown.
Rountree's father, George, died on Aug. 15, during the first week of practice. George Rountree was his son's biggest fan and never missed a game, despite a history of heart trouble.
Rountree, a receiver turned tailback, promised himself that he'd score a touchdown for his father this year. Until Saturday, he'd been shut out.
But with 2:42 left in the third quarter, Rountree ran in from a yard out to give Norfolk State a 47-7 lead - and himself some peace of mind.
``I got it,'' Rountree said. ``I'm at peace now.'' by CNB
