In the wake of Oliver North's loss on Nov. 8, fingers should be pointing only at one group: Republicans themselves.
Sen. Chuck Robb was as vulnerable as he will ever be, and the only reason he didn't lose is because the Republicans nominated a flawed candidate.
All of the plaid shirts and sheepish grins in the world couldn't mask what everyone knows: Oliver North, while in the U.S. military, deliberately placed himself above U.S. law.
As a Republican who voted - with great personal anguish - for Oliver North, I sincerely hope that the party will recognize its mistake and admit it. Don't blame Sen. John Warner. Don't blame Marshall Coleman. Their alliance never would have been formed if Virginia's choice hadn't been between an out-of-control former governor and an out-of-control American ``patriot.''
