ETHEL MAE HARPER

Ethel Mae ``Essie'' Harper, 78, of the 4400 block of Gannon Road, died Nov. 13, 1994, in a hospital.

Mrs. Harper was born in Norfolk and was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth. She was the daughter of the late Allen Bynum Sr. and Mrs. Bessie M. Fisher Bynum, and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. During World War II she managed the Glensheallah Golf Club while her husband was serving with the U.S. Armed Forces.

She is survived by her husband, John Chandler Harper; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Centenary United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donald H. Seely. Entombment will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Mausoleum, Suffolk. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth.

Memorial donations may be made to Holiday House of Portsmouth, or Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Norfolk.
