HAZEL T. POINDEXTER

Hazel Thorpe Poindexter, 91, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1994, in James Rivier Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Poindexter was a native of Williamsburg and was a Newport News resident for many years. Mrs. Poindexter was a graduate of the College of William and Mary with a B.A. degree in language. She was a member of Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Association of University Women. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a loyal supporter of New Covenant Church. Mrs. Poindexter retired as a teacher from the Newport News school system with 33 years of service and had taught for one year in Dade County, Fla.

She is survived by one son, Donald Thorpe Poindexter of Maxwell, N.M.; one sister, Margaret Pond of Wakefield; five granchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Weymouth Funeral Home, with interment in Peninsula Memorial Park.
