John Henry Chisholm, 78, of the 1100 block of Shoal Creek Trail, died Nov. 15, 1994, in Chesapeake.
Mr. Chisholm was born in Everett, Pa. He had retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer, Navy recruiter after 20 years. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a former member of Norview Masonic Lodge 113 AF & AM. He was a member and past master of Willis B. Fentress Masonic Lodge 296 AF & AM serving as master in 1985. He was a member of the Khedive Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., where he was a member of the Hillbillies Unit and the Horse Patrol and also served as the chief aide to Potentate Herbert W. Smith in 1986 and Potentate Troy W. (Woody) Brown in 1992. He was also active in the Shrine Circus. He managed Indian River Bowling Lanes, Brunswick Plaza Bowl and Pin Path for 20 years. He was a member and past president of the Norfolk Bowling Association and a life member of the American Bowling Congress. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Chisholm.
Survivors include his wife, Sterlyn B. Chisholm of Chesapeake; three daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne C. and Jimmy J. Wood of Chesapeake, Cecile C. and Herman M. Flora of Virginia Beach and Terri C. and Albert J. Speach of White Plains, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Joe Carson and Kenneth A. Askew. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Crippled and Burned Children's Hospitals. Masonic rites will be accorded in the funeral home.
