ROBERT B. HUNGATE

Robert B. ``Bob'' Hungate, 68, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1994, at his home.

Mr. Hungate, a native of Norfolk, was a graduate of Granby High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and attended William and Mary College. He spent 24 years in the liquid petroleum industry, moving to Greenville in 1970 as president of Tropigas of North Carolina. He founded Hungates Arts, Crafts & Hobbies, Inc. in 1972 which now encompasses 12 stores in North Carolina and Southeastern Virginia.

Mr. Hungate was a member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge (NU)226 in Norfolk and St. James United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Hungate Moye, who died in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Bennett Hungate; son and daughter-in-law, Scott B. and Betsy Hungate of Greenville; daughter and son-in-law, Susanne H. and G. Russell Crofton of Roswell, Ga.; stepchildren, Suzy and Wayne Hopkins of Chocowinity, N.C., H. Craig and Andria Spencer of Manteo; grandchildren, Ann Stuart Hungate, Matthew Hungate, Jonathan Hungate, all of Greenville, Grayson Boyd Crofton, Elizabeth Crofton, Sara Crofton, all of Roswell, Rebecca L. Hill and her husband, Jim, of Greenville, Stephen B. Huntsberry of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Ashley Tyler Hill of Greenville and Paul W. Huntsberry of Tampa; stepgrandchidren, Megan Hopkins and Trenton Hopkins, both of Chocowinity; a sister, Margaret E. Paulette of Virginia Beach; and the mother of his children, Nell Hungate of Greenville.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m in Wilkerson Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Woodrow W. Wells Jr. and the Rev. Randy Maynard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army of Greenville, P.O. Box 113, Greenville, N.C. 27835.
