Robert Clayton Whitfield, 45, of the 2600 block of Beachmont Ave., a retired longshoreman, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1994, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Mr. Whitfield, a native of Norfolk, was the son of Booker T. Whitfield Sr. and the late Ester Woods Whitfield. He was retired from International Longshoreman's Association, Local 1248. He was a former member of Second Calvary Baptist Church. Robert graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1966 and had a part in planning every reunion since graduation. He also attended Norfolk State University. Robert was very active in citywide recreation as a youth and adult, and gave unselfishly of his time coaching for many years in Recreation League football and baseball.
In addition to his father, survivors include two daughters, Bessie Geneva Whitfield and Tonika Whitfield; four sons, Brian Whitfield, Tracey Whitfield, Robert C. Whitfield Jr. and Robert Lloyd-Whitfield; a sister, Brenda ``Nita'' Delk; four brothers, C.W. Spears Jr., Booker T. Whitfield Jr., Charlie A. Whitfield and Clarence D. Whitfield; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Riddick Funeral Service, 1225 Norview Ave., by the Rev. Lloyd Allen. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and at the residence at all other times.
