WALTER J. OLIVER JR.

Walter Jasper ``Jack'' Oliver Jr., 71, of the 400 block of Military Road, died Nov. 18, 1994, in his home.

Mr. Oliver was born in Suffolk, and was retired as a Sergeant Deputy Sheriff in the Suffolk Sheriff's Department. He attended St. Mary's of the Presentation Church and was a Baptist. He was a former funeral director. He was a member of the National Sheriff's Association; a lifetime member of Cosmopolitan International and served the local chapter as its president in 1962; he was a member of Peanut Promenaders Square Dance Club of Franklin and represented the club on the Tidewater Council. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Gallagher Oliver; a daughter, Rose Marie O. Hutchison of Boca Raton, Fla.; three sons, Jack D. Oliver Sr. of Columbia, S.C., Timothy L. Oliver of Greensboro, N.C., and Christopher C. Oliver of Suffolk; a stepson, Patrick F. Safford of Huntington, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's of the Presentation Church by Father Christian Haydinger and Father Thomas B. Nee. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in Hill Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. and other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
