A WINTER WONDERLAND will twinkle with 13 miles of holiday lights starting Thanksgiving night at Norfolk Botanical Garden.
``Garden of Lights,'' on display each evening through Dec. 31, is a $300,000 holiday light show that takes visitors on a journey through the four seasons of the garden.
Highlights of the seasons include: in the spring garden, illuminated vines, tulips, crocus, waterfalls and roses; in summer, a lighted bouquet of blossoms, wild mushrooms and butterflies; in autumn, a display of nature's harvest; and in winter, snowflakes, fountains and a children's toyland of candy canes, toy soldiers, snowmen, a gingerbread house and an animated Santa with his reindeer.
The show uses 15,000 pounds of lighting equipment, 150,000 5-watt bulbs and eight miles of extension cords.
The project is sponsored by Norfolk Botanical Garden, Cox Cable and WTKR-TV3 and will raise money for the garden. WTKR will produce a half-hour special about the ``Garden of Lights,'' which will air at 7 p.m. Wednesday. by CNB
