Marie Theresa Butt Kingsbury, 70, of the 1700 block of Ashland Avenue, died November 18, 1994, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mrs. Kingsbury was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late James Anthony and Marie Theresa Carty Butt. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Norfolk, Virginia.
Mrs. Kingsbury was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School and Dunbarton College, class of '45 and attended Catholic University. She was formerly employed with The United States Bureau of Standards as an analytical chemist. She was president of the Fortnightly Study Club, former volunteer with Tidewater Literacy Guild and Meals on Wheels; past president of Lindenwood Elementary PTA. She was a founding member of the Lafayette Winona Civic League and was instrumental in establishing a new Lafayette branch library. She also served for many years as chief elections officer at the Lafayette library precinct.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Lewis Kingsbury, Jr. of Norfolk, 4 daughters, Karen Kingsbury Miller of Norfolk, Kathleen Anne Kingsbury of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Laura Elizabeth Kingsbury of Lakewood, Colorado, Lisa Ann Glisson of Salem, Massachusetts; 4 sons, Stephen Francis Kingsbury of Hackettstown, New Jersey, John Michael Kingsbury of Norfolk, David Lewis Kingsbury of Virginia Beach, Thomas Gerard Kingsbury of Kill Devil Hills, NC; 4 sisters, Mary Claire Pinard, Betty B. Williams, Dorothy A. Robinson and Carolyn V. Pearson all of Norfolk and a brother, James A. Butt, Jr. of Virginia Beach; and 15 grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at The New Sanctuary of Christ the King Catholic Church by Reverend Joseph Lehman. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
A Christian Wake Service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters, in memory of Rachel Ann Kingsbury. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk will be handling the arrangements.
