CRIME LINE

Local police are seeking public assistance in solving these cases:

PORTSMOUTH

On Oct. 17, an arsonist set fire to three offices at 605 Greet St. Police believe the blazes were set to cover up a burglary at the offices.

Taken were several televisions, radios, a microwave oven, typewriters, a carpet sweeper, a crock pot, a vacuum cleaner, a coffee pot, a CD player, a word processor, electric fans, electric heaters and several other items.

NORFOLK

Police believe one man is responsible for five robberies in which the victims have been well-dressed women.

Oct. 2, 9 p.m., 800 block of Brandon Ave. - A 27-year-old woman was robbed at knifepoint while getting into her car in front of her home.

Nov. 6, 7:30 a.m., 500 block of Graydon Ave. - A 76-year-old nun was robbed at gunpoint. The suspect wore a ski mask.

Nov. 7, 11:45 p.m., 1200 block of Manteo St. - A 43-year-old woman was robbed and beaten with a club.

The suspect is described as black, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 140 to 150 pounds, with faint facial hair on his chin and short hair. He appears to be a drug user.

CHESAPEAKE

About 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, Carlos Hill, 21, left his girlfriend's house on Oxford Road. He told her that he would return shortly.

When he came back 15 minutes later, he had been shot in the side.

Hills' girlfriend took him to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

Detectives believe Hill knew his killer but since he didn't know he was going to die, he withheld the murderer's identity.

On July 15, Linwood Freeman, 72, was at a friend's house when he heard a knock on the door. He answered the door and then, police believe, an assailant demanded money.

After exchanging words, Freeman was shot and killed.

Police have identified a suspect, Randolph Carr, 19. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and a mustache.

Carr is known to frequent the Ingleside, Diggs Park and Oak Leaf sections of Norfolk. He is considered armed and dangerous.

VIRGINIA BEACH

A 28-year-old woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

On Saturday, Nov. 12, about 4 a.m., Janice Lewis, 28, got out of her car in the 500 block of S. Military Highway after a domestic dispute with her husband.

As she crossed the northbound lane of Military Highway, she was struck and killed.

Investigators have very little information about the vehicle: It is a car which should have damage to the mirror on the passenger side and on the upper corner of the windshield.

HAMPTON

On Nov. 3, Richard Alston failed to report to work.

Concerned co-workers went to his residence at 118 Clemwood Parkway.

Alston was found dead in his home. He had been shot.

Hampton Police and the U.S. Secret Service are investigating the disappearance of Eugene Bryce Morris, 81, from the Buckroe area of Hampton.

Morris was reported missing in May 1987.

Information is sought from anyone having information regarding the disappearance of Mr. Morris or the disposition of approximately $95,000 in retirement funds in his name. by CNB
