How many children must be mentally scarred, physically damaged or killed before Virginia Beach Social Services is made to do its job (``Father in neglect case admitted earlier abuse,'' Nov. 17)?
Social Services Director Daniel M. Stone says his department's decision to return a malnourished child to its home is based on facts. Facts that came out in court should make a person terrified to place even a dog in Martin Herrera's care.
Would Director Stone leave his children with someone who would starve them, smother them and fill their mouths with milk and hold it shut until they choked?
Mr. Herrera admitted using his child as a release valve for work-related stress. What will he do to relieve the stress of appearing in court on abuse charges?
