Chief Warrant Officer Nicholas DeWit Jr., USN (Ret.), 84, died Nov. 21, 1994, in Chesapeake.
He was born in Rodedamn, Holland, and was the widower of Edaphell Bernice DeWit. He was a member of Berkley Masonic Lodge (NU)167, Khedive Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Bodies, Retired Officers Association and Police Association of Virginia.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary DeGroute of Paterson, N.J., Henrietta Vanderwal of Glenn Rock, N.J., Christine Hensz of Ridgewood, N.J.; five grandchildren, Robin Beck of Chesapeake, Virginia Sivak and Susan DeWit, both of Alexandria, Va., Gerald DeWit and Penny Mabalot, both of Norfolk; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Gerald M. DeWit Sr.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Riverside Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
