Ida L. McGowan Morgan, of the 2700 block of Leo St., a dietician, died Nov. 17, 1994, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Morgan was born in Greensville, N.C. She was employed with Norfolk Public Schools at Lindenwood Elementary School for 26 years. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She was director of Scout Unit 102, president of Busy Bee Club and member of the Sanctuary Choir. She was chairman of the Music Department Committee, Banquet Committee, Transportation Committee and was assistant director of the Department Christian Education, president of the Old Dominion Association and taught ushers classes and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of Usher Board 2 and was past president for over 20 years. She attended public schools in Nofolk, was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State University and Elizabeth City State University. She was a member of the St. Thomas Chapter 51 Order of the Eastern Star, Daughter of I.B.P.O.E. of W. Norfolk, P.H.A. and past grand senior matron of Royal Degree Chamber of Southern District 1. She was a member of the Lydia Tent 1 A and the Reindeer Tent.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Morgan Sr. of Norfolk; two daughters, Annette Kemp and Anita Morgan, both of Norfolk; a son-in-law, DeMarcus Kemp of Norfolk; two sons, William McGowan and James Morgan Jr., both of Norfolk; seven sisters, Hattie Daniels, Nellie Daniels, Argie Lynch, Betty Sutton, Elizabeth Dawson, Magaline McCullough and Jean Daniels, all of Grimesland, N.C.; six brothers, Bernestine Daniels, Samuel Daniels, Jesse Daniels, Willie Daniels, the Rev. William Manley Daniels and Alton Daniels, all of Grimesland; six grandchildren, Yolanda Williams, Jermall Smith, Takesha Morgan, DeShawn Morgan, Shenitra Kemp and Ashley Royster, all of Norfolk; closest friends, Esther Hoover, Ollie Prater, Ruby R. Cooper, Olivia Eason, Helen Mitchell and Mamie Ratliff; and an uncle, James Daniel of Grimesland.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Dr. I. Joseph Williams. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The Tents will assemble at Metropolitan Funeral Service on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. Elk Lodge will assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 until 7:30 p.m. Family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The body will be placed in the church on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at 2710 Leo St., Norfolk, at 11 a.m. Friday for funeral processional to the church.
