The Holiday Symphony of Lights, lighting the Pembroke area for the holidays was at 6 p.m. Thursday. The program, held inside the mall because of weather, included Joe Hoppel of WCMS Radio as master of ceremonies. Also on hand was Dr. Duane Harding of WTKR-TV reporting the weather live and giving a countdown for the lighting, entertainment by Cruzin' Coyotes, Santa Claus, Rudolph, Chris the Christmas Tree, Frosty the Snowman and the Snow Queen. There were refreshments, a Lillian Vernon gift for each child and a program from the Virginia Beach Water Conservation Awareness Committee. Children dressed in their favorite western clothes. There was a drawing for a $100 gift certificate from Kay-Bee Toys and concert tickets to see Aaron Tippin and Mark Chesnutt.
