Regarding your article about teachers who made a difference (Daily Break, Nov. 18): I found it a pleasant irony that Alf Mapp Jr. was quoted on his favorite teacher.
During my years as an English major at Old Dominion University, Alf Mapp was my favorite teacher. He influenced me tremendously, over the course of several classes, through his expressive and vivid use of language and his passion for writing and literature. He was also very encouraging to those of us who wrote fiction.
May Alf Mapp Jr. continue to inspire future students the way he inspired me.
