Percell ``Sonny'' Erquhart Jr., 47, of the 5300 block of Thornbury Lane, departed this life on Friday, Nov. 18, 1994, at his residence.
A native of Surry County, he was a member of Cypress Baptist Church, and its Senior and Mass Choirs. He was also a member of Virginia Beach Interdenominational Choir, treasurer of POSSES and a member of the Tidewater Clerical League. He was a retired supervisor from Portsmouth Social Services and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was predeceased by his father, Percell Erquhart Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Sarah Erquhart of Elberon; two sisters, Joann Newby and Wanda Hill of Elberon; a brother, Linwood Wayne Erquhart of Emporia, Kan.; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Cypress Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Nellum Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Mount Moriah AME Cemetery with military honors. Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Poole's Funeral Home, Smithfield, and one hour prior to the service at the church. The family is receiving friends at the residence and will assemble there at 8:45 a.m. Friday for the processional to Elberon.
