Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of two teenagers who are accused of robbing a Kempsville pawn shop last week and spraying the two clerks with pepper gas.
Police arrested the teens after investigating a disturbance at an Oceanfront motel at 3 a.m. Saturday. In a motel room, officers found jewelry that was taken on Friday in the armed robbery of Kempsville Pawn Shop in the 5200 block of Princess Anne Road.
During the robbery, police spokesman Mike Carey said, 18-year-old Yahuwda Jenkins and a 17-year-old took cash and jewelry from the pawn shop after Jenkins pulled a 9 mm handgun.
After forcing two female clerks to open the store's safe, Jenkins sprayed them with pepper gas, Carey said.
Jenkins, of the 1600 block of Waff Road, was charged with robbery, abduction using a firearm during a felony and conspiracy to commit robbery. He is being held without bail in the city jail.
The 17-year-old, whose name was not released because of his age, is a felon, police records show. He was charged with robbery, abduction, using a firearm during a felony and having a firearm while being a felon. He is being held in the Tidewater Detention Home.
