Shirley Custalow McGowan, known as Little Dove in the Mattapoini Indian tribe, recently visited the students of Simonsdale Elementary School, home of the Eagles, to talk about her Native American heritage. Little Dove set up a loghouse on the front lawn of the school and taught the children about Native American farming, tools, pottery, baskets and the use of furs, pouches, stone, wood, shells and beads.
